Heading up this new clonking era of creativity was the copper golem – a mechanical companion organizing your base. Being the first mob with a complete lifecycle, we wanted this trailer to tell the quirky yet emotional life story of a copper golem – from accidental creation to final heart clonk. But without high stakes or dangers, how do you create enough friction to carry a trailer script? We decided to tell this story through a different lense. Because, while Minecraft players always have somewhere to go, something to mine, or someone to fight, there are others who don't get scared when the sun goes down and who are experts at doing exactly what the Spring to Life drop is about: enjoying your surroundings. As a writer, I developed the original story of Hawkins into a new narrative and creative campaign including scripts, newsletters, editorial, ads, and web copy. All whilst staying true to the original IP and, even more importantly, its fans. From tween boys on a monster hunt to Russian scientists without a conscience to 80s jazzercise instructors; the characters were as varied as the output.
